A mere two hour drive from the heart of Los Angeles lies Palm Springs, beckoning gay travelers to take a few moments and rest from the rush and bustle of the big city. At first glance Palm Springs’ scene may seem to be as busy as that of Silverlake or West Hollywood. Once you have the chance to catch your breath, though, you quickly discover that this city offers a much more relaxed way to spend a few days in the Southern California sun.

You can make the most of that sun by choosing one of the clothing optional men’s resorts that dot the area. Escape Resort is one resort that stands out from a plethora of choices available for guys wanting to get away from it all yet still be close to the heart of all the action. Located in a quiet residential area, Escape Resort is a quick five minute drive from the heart of Palm Springs and the gayborhood along Arenas Road.

Escape may be a small oasis in the desert but that doesn’t mean that you have to give up the creature comforts that you’re accustomed to. Each of the 12 suites are decorated in a modern yet relaxed decor that fits in with the mid century feel that is Palm Springs. Somehow, the resort still manages to feel right to those who enjoy the big contemporary hotels that can be found in gay hotspots all over the world.

Bright walls contrast the coffee-toned furniture and large windows that let sunlight stream into the rooms. A modern flat screen television has both cable and DVD capabilities, and the property has a large selection of mainstream and adult videos for guests to borrow for in room screening. Pillow tops give the beds an amazingly soft feel and add a little extra cushioning should you choose to “break” it in. In-room kitchenettes offer budding chefs the option of cooking a great meal, even if cooking is most likely be at the bottom of your list of things to do when you’re on vacation in the desert.

The rooms are great but, let’s face it, you don’t go to a destination like Palm Springs to stay in your room even during those scorching hot summers. You visit a getaway like Palm Springs to be out in the sun. Escape Resort gives you plenty of opportunities to soak in some rays, whether it be in the privacy of your own patio area (over half of the units offer this great amenity) or by the pool listening to the house and dance music that always plays in the background. Should the cool water of the pool be a little on the nipple-y side, head over to the 15-man hot tub that begs to be put into service. After one dip, it’s easy to see why the hot tub quickly becomes the center of social life at this men’s only retreat.
