Like gentle breezes that caress the city, Arabic script flows rhythmically around the tower of Mevlana Museum in Konya, Turkey. Within rests a mausoleum for Jalal ad-Din Rumi, the famous Sufi leader and poet.

Sufism, the mystic tradition of Islam, emphasizes a very personal relationship with God; often referred to Him as The Beloved. Although Sufi centers in the middle east have come under attack from radical conservative Muslim groups recently, communities of Sufis reside peacefully in Turkey where faithful followers trek to Rumi’s tomb in Konya to pay their respect.
