A traditional Okinawan guardian, the Shisa, stands watch over a boutique shop in the Tsuboya district with its mouth open to scare away evil spirits and energies. This area of Naha Japan, located on Yachimun Street is home to dozens of galleries and stores that specialize in hand-made pottery, including all sizes and styles of sizes of Shisa. Large hand-made examples, such as this, can sell for as few as hundreds to as much as thousands of dollars per pair.

If You Go:

A significant portion of this review’s underlying trip was hosted by the Okinawa Convention & Visitors Bureau. My opinions, however, are my own, and I was not paid to express any bias for or against this product or destination.
